Cider Sucks.
CIDER IS BORING.
CIDER IS ONE-DIMENSIONAL.
CIDER IS TOO SWEET.

UNTIL NOW.

Until now, you were probably right. The vast majority of cider brands offer a product that lacks personality and is void of depth and character. At 101 Cider House, our goal is to craft an alcoholic beverage that’s better for your body, better on your palate, and better for the environment.

We work with orchards up and down the iconic 101 Highway, sourcing only non-GMO ingredients that are free of harsh chemicals and pesticides. We start every batch with raw, fresh-pressed juice and allow it to ferment spontaneously for three months – no sulfites added!

The result is a living beverage that is naturally alcoholic, certified probiotic, and contains zero sugar.

Wild Fermented

101 Cider House cultivates spontaneously-fermented cider, leaving a better-for-you, sessionable beverage that is easier on the body. Our blends have zero sugar, zero carbs, are gluten-free, packed with naturally occuring probiotics, and always vegan friendly. 100% fresh-pressed juice, punchy ingredients, and positive guilt-free vibes. Feel the buzz.

Our Team

Mark McTavish Founder, 101 Cider House

Raised in the apple growing region of southwest Ontario, Canada, Mark McTavish began his career in the craft beverage industry at the age of 19. Soon after completing his Bachelor’s in Commerce at Canada’s top beverage management school, Mark established his place in the market by opening one of the first craft beer bars in the country in 2003. After helping to pioneer the craft beer industry in Canada, Mark followed his other passion in the commercial fitness industry.

With a focus on product design and brand development, Mark spent nearly a decade working in fitness across North America. This path came full circle when Mark realized his dream of crafting the healthiest alcoholic beverages on the planet.

JACE MILSTEAD

VP of Sales

Jace goes by many names: “Uncle Jace,” “Hero,” “That loudmouth.” He’s never met a beverage he didn’t want to talk about (or just talk in general). In 2025, he joined the team at 101 Cider House, bringing the world’s most authentic, delicious cider to the fine folks of the Southwest—and probably telling them a story or two while he’s at it.

MARA TYLER

General Manager

Mara has been part of the 101 Cider House family since 2019. When not working, she loves reading and watching movies. Her biggest red flag is that she has no sense of direction. If you tell her to go south she will just turn left and hope for the best.

JOSUE ECHEVERRIA

Operations Manager

People might think he chugs energy drinks hourly with the amount of hyper energy he releases. But in reality, he’s just a dude who loves to smile, laugh, joke around, and get his job done early to catch a quick 9 holes before the sun sets.

BEN BREWINGTON

Production Manager

Ben is the Head Cidermaker and purveyor of awful puns. He loves music, attending no less than 20 concerts a year. When he’s not making Cider he can be found planning adventures for future travel with his wife, taking artistic photography, or deep into a good book.

Proper Cider

Needed a Proper Home!

Originally constructed in 1902, our historic building on the banks of the LA River has been fully restored and is now home to our beautiful 13,000 square foot cider house!

We invested many years into the construction, zoning, permitting, and licensing to manufacture and serve alcoholic beverages to the public.

Make no mistake, there is no other cider house like this – not in the U.S., not anywhere.

Making History

From Warehouse to Cider House

We started construction on the cider house in April 2018, and completed the production side in April 2019. The taproom and patio was completed in 2022, after the unfortunate and understandable delays of 2020. The aim was to breathe new life into this historical building while keeping much of its original charm intact.

When you visit 101 Cider House, you’re stepping into history. When you drink 101 Cider, you’re tasting history in the making!

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT AMERICA’S CIDER ROUTE?

The iconic 101 Highway glides along the coast of Southern California’s sunny beaches to Northern California’s redwoods and then from the rocky shores of Oregon to the rainforests of Olympic National Park in Washington. Along the way, the West Coast’s most dynamic cities line up like pearls in a 2,878 mile long necklace. From its epic views to its incredible food, its hiking trails to its city streets, driving the 101 end-to-end is the ride of a lifetime. What you may not know is that the 101 corridor is also the unofficial cider route of America – home to hundreds of apple growers. The fertile soil, abundant water resources, and ideal climate, make this region the perfect location for apple cultivation. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), growers along the 101 produce 80% of the country’s total apple crop…More than 7 billion pounds annually. We invite you to start your journey here at our cider house, located where the 101 begins in downtown Los Angeles.
